Island News is published in part by Island Press, a division Hearst Magazines, Inc. The first issue of Island News was published on November. 24, 1931. The title was changed to the Stroller’s Weekly. The name was not last used until March 3, 1933 when the last edition was published.

Island News Professional brought to Alaska several new writers who wrote articles dealing with business on the islands and surrounding areas. It also included travel and news articles and a mining report, an article on Kenai Fjords National Park and an island weather report. A calendar of cultural events and a wildlife and mining report were also included. Another important feature was local obituaries. In this issue, the funeral notices were listed alphabetically under each city. This made it easier for readers to locate the correct information quicker. Learn more about Island News Sports here.

The section for businesses was designed to provide job opening details and advertisements. The employment section included ads for classifieds for every type of employment available, including fishing, construction, general contracting, cleaning, landscaping, or any other trade.
