“The Village Voice” on Long Island News. ” Islanders News: Island News Professional” refers to its sister publication, which is now called “Isles News”. A classic example of the vibrant, happy covers that graced the pages of Fire Island News since the late 1940s. Fire Island News (FIN) was delivered to your house for just 15 cents per copy. A welcome package was included. The first glimpse of the vibrant characters included in this daily reprint of Islands news was delivered to readers in the form of a welcome packet.

But for some people, this friendly, if playful image did not do justice. Island News was a class to them. It was so in some ways. People who lived in an older home or who frequented Fire Island, in particular were viewed as a bit uptight, with a certain set of values that seemed to be geared more toward the preservation of property values more than anything else. They were, naturally, the most stereotypical of the readers of this newspaper. Know more about Island News Kauai here.

Life on Long Island was something of a grind. Everything had to be done or else nothing would be accomplished. This included obviously creating the proverbial puzzle, the daily and weekly puzzle. (That’s another story! Keep coming back.

One of the most notable residents of this charming slice of heaven was Frank Shamrock. He worked as an insurance salesman for the massive insurance company, AIG. Frank was so dedicated to his job, he took a sabbatical from work following retirement to pursue his passion. He bought a tiny one-bedroom home with a small lot in the East Bay of Long Island. It was a homey small oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It was the perfect place for the couple.

Shamrock was in love with the tranquil surroundings. The grey concrete of his lot created a sense stillness – even if there were busy cars whizzing by, he was at ease knowing that he was in a quiet area. There was no sound outside, no dogs barking and no kids playing or barking at the dogs. He felt serene. It was like stepping into the vast blue ocean.

Then , one day, as the way home from shopping in the mall, Frank came face-to-face with a terrible vision: a bullet in his head. He fell to the ground, unconscious. He was unconscious when he regained consciousness . He was now in a hospital bed, breathing hard. He wondered how his life could be completely flipped upside down in such a short time. He was not willing to believe that this could be happening to him, but he needed to ask himself how exactly how could this happen?

Frank was treated and survived, but he left an enormous question mark on his calendar: What next? He was unsure if it was a possibility to return to South Beach or move to another part of New York City. Frank was an artist of his own who wanted to build a home for his family and himself. He could not imagine not moving again. Or to other countries around the globe where he could be able to find worthwhile work.

He was fortunate to have the right people. Frank was assisted by his best friend, his sister in law, and his landlord. They made him feel so much more confident, regardless of the setback. They gave him the motivation that he needed to continue his journey regardless of the physical limitations. Island News did an outstanding job chronicling his recovery.
